Faceted Search
Faceted search is the inversion of the Google principle and offers an interactive way of discovering search results for the visitor.
When conducting a search on Google one tries to define the query as precise as possible by providing many words describing the wantedn results.
With faceted search the visitor starts by describing the wanted result only roughly, maybe with only one word. The visitor is then given the set ofdocuments matching the search word. Additionally a set of filters are provided so that the visitor can narrow or drill down on the result set. Solr however, will only provide filters that in combination with the already applied filters are going to provide at least one result.
Should a filter applied by the visitor not provide the wanted results, shecan back up by removing the filter and choosing a new one. The amount and order in which filters are applied or removed does not matter.
